Verdigris brings isolated residents of Dumbarton together through befriending walks along the Clyde and around the Rock, offering genuine companionship and the restorative power of gentle outdoor movement.
Loneliness is one of the most significant health challenges facing communities across Scotland today, and Dumbarton is no exception. Here in this historic Clydeside town — where the river bends beneath the volcanic spur of Dumbarton Rock — there are still residents who go days, sometimes weeks, without a meaningful conversation.
Vibrant Health Advocates – Verdigris was founded to change that. Our volunteer befrienders meet people where they are: on the doorstep, at the riverside path, or at the foot of the Rock, and they walk alongside them — not just physically, but in the truest sense of the word.
We are a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation rooted in Dumbarton, run by people who know and love this town, and driven by the belief that connection is not a luxury but a fundamental human need.

Trained volunteer befrienders are matched one-to-one with isolated residents for regular walks along the Clyde path and around Dumbarton's historic landmarks. Each walk is unhurried, conversational, and shaped entirely around what the participant can manage and enjoys.
